Germany ranked “best to invest” by Site Selection magazine
Site Selection has placed Germany first in its “Global Best to Invest Ranking.” The annual assessment is based on Germany’s “economic and job creation” successes in 2019. Site Selection says the ranking may provide a hint as to which economies will lead global recovery in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis.
Germany was also in Site Selection’s “Top 10 Per-Capita Global Best to Invest Countries.” Among the evaluation criteria were capital investments into private-sector facilities (total projects and per-capita projects). To be considered, these ventures had to represent a minimum of USD one million and create at least twenty new jobs.
The German healthcare industry contributed to the country’s performance in the ranking. TeleClinic, a Munich-based digital health start-up, for example, is just one such project. In 2019, the company – which employs sixty people – landed a EUR seven million in investment from Idinvest Partners of Paris. What is more, the country’s inward investment agency, Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI), reported that foreign direct investment in Germany increased again last year following record levels of FDI in 2018.
